2005 Recipients
ALABAMA

(Dothan, AL) Wiregrass Angel House: This organization will collaborate with other local victim service agencies and plans to produce several 30- to 60-second public service announcements promoting awareness of NCVRW and local victim services. The public service announcements will run the week prior to and the week of NCVRW.

(Montgomery, AL) Montgomery County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to produce a mini infomercial about local crime victim services to be aired on television and the radio during NCVRW. It also plans to develop a brochure that lists the victim services it offers. The brochure will be distributed during NCVRW and throughout the year.

ALASKA

(Kenai, AK) The LeeShoreCenter: This organization plans to develop educational infomercials to be shown during intermission at two local movie theaters during NCVRW. It will conduct presentations in local schools and host an essay contest in schools for grades 4–12. The organization will also hold a week-long training on domestic violence and sexual assault. All activities will be advertised in the local newspaper and covered by the local radio station.

ARIZONA

(Kingman, AZ) Kingman Aid To Abused People: This organization plans to hold a public rally to promote crime victims' rights. The rally will include guest speakers and information booth staffed by local service providers. The organization will develop radio and newspaper advertisements in English and Spanish that will provide information about the rally and crime victims' rights.

ARKANSAS

(DeQueen, AR) SouthwestArkansasDomesticViolenceCenter: This organization plans to collaborate with local service agencies during NCVRW to conduct a series of workshops, entitled "Out of the Shadows," on various topics at college campuses. The topics will include the dynamics of domestic violence, child abuse, dating violence, and violence toward people with disabilities. The organization will also develop radio and newspaper public service announcements in English and Spanish that will advertise the workshops and services available to victims.

CALIFORNIA

(Los Angeles, CA) City of Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice Planning: This organization plans to collaborate with the City Attorney's Office to organize a communitywide NCVRW 5K/10K Walk/Run, followed by a victims' rights fair with local service providers. It will also develop and distribute promotional items and "Life Line" information cards for victims. Marketing for the events will be done through local radio and newspaper public service announcements.

(Mariposa, CA) Mountain Crisis Services: This organization plans to collaborate with other local victim service agencies to carry out a public awareness campaign targeting crime victims. There will be newspaper advertisements promoting local services and NCVRW events; posters and brochures explaining crime victims' rights and services; and infomercials about local victim services that will play at a local movie theater before featured movies throughout the year. During NCVRW, Mountain Crisis Services also plans to hold a blood drive and a youth art activity with an anti-violence message.

(Redding, CA) Shasta County District Attorney: This organization plans to hold a "Take Back the Day/Take Back the Night" event that will be open to the community and will honor victims of crime. The event will include a resource fair with a shoe display showcasing pairs of shoes. Each pair represents an individual who has been a victim of crime in the U.S. in the last year. There will also be a rally and a candlelight march. Print advertising, posters, and flyers will promote the event.

(South Lake Tahoe, CA) Womenspace, Unlimited, South Lake Tahoe Women's Center: This organization plans to use an educational outreach campaign during NCVRW. It plans to use the media to advertise NCVRW activities and victims' rights and services through interviews on radio and television, newspaper advertisements, and posters and flyers in English and Spanish. At the end of the week, there will be a Masquerade Ball that will feature an educational display and guest speakers. The Masquerade Ball will conclude with the unveiling of masks to symbolize the shedding of masks of shame, fear, or embarrassment that many victims hide behind.

(Yuba City, CA) SutterCounty Sheriff's Department: This organization plans to host educational events using the theme "Anchoring Our Community." There will be guest speakers and the distribution of an "emotional first aid kit" that will include resources for crime victims, such as a wallet card and magnet containing phone numbers of available services. The events will be marketed through flyers, posters, cable access, local television stations, and local press.

COLORADO

(Colorado Springs, CO) El PasoCountySheriff's Office: This organization plans to hold a "Shopping for Victim Awareness" day at a local mall. The educational event will consist of information tables set up by local service providers and promotional giveaways. The organization also plans to have a multimedia presentation, entitled "Voices of Men," that will deal with various topics, such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. The events will be marketed through newspaper advertisements and informational flyers.

(Denver, CO) Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service agencies to develop "Digital Stories" of 10 crime victims from diverse backgrounds. Victims will participate in a workshop to help them put their experiences on video in a manner that will be meaningful to them. During NCVRW, there will be a public screening of the Digital Stories at an event that honors the victims portrayed in the video and raises community awareness of victims' issues. The videos will be available for use in victim service related trainings and public outreach activities throughout the year.

FLORIDA

(DeFuniak Springs, FL) COPE Center, Inc: This organization plans to hold an NCVRW educational event and candlelight vigil in memory of those who have lost their lives due to crime. At the educational event, there will be guest speakers and a poster contest for elementary and middle school children. The theme of the event will be "Crime and Our Community." This organization also plans to promote NCVRW and local crisis services for victims by way of flyers, local newspapers, local television stations, table displays at local restaurants, and community calendars.

(Orlando, FL) Victim Services Coalition of Central Florida: This organization plans to host a 5K Run/Walk under the theme "Put Your Foot Down Against Violence." At the finish line, there will be an educational fair that will offer information from local victim service providers, feature a keynote speaker, as well as a Clothesline Project display. This event and NCVRW will be advertised through various mediums including newspaper, radio, and posters.

GEORGIA

(Atlanta, GA) Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault: This organization plans to carry out a statewide awareness campaign to provide information on services for victims. The campaign will include public service announcements, newspaper advertisements and articles, survivors' success stories, and the distribution of literature through statewide agencies and public libraries.

IDAHO

(Bosie, ID) Idaho's Heart: This organization plans to carry out a variety of public awareness initiatives about crime, including a "Rights of Children" campaign, awareness stickers on changing tables in public restrooms, and advertising on public buses.

ILLINOIS

(Bloomington, IL) McLeanCounty Victim/Witness Service: This organization plans to host a "Kid Identification Day" at a local mall during NCVRW. The event will feature booths where children can be photographed and receive DNA kits that provide tools to collect identifying information about children, along with a list of emergency phone numbers. This event and NCVRW will be advertised through a billboard, the local newspaper, radio, and television.

(Ottawa, IL) 13th Judicial Circuit Family Violence Prevention Council: This organization plans to carry out a public awareness campaign to advertise NCVRW along with the rights and services available to all crime victims. The campaign will involve the newspaper, radio, and grocery bag inserts in English and Spanish.

INDIANA

(Marion, IN) CASA of Grant County, Inc.: This organization plans to carry out a public awareness campaign about victims and their rights during NCVRW. Many educational and awareness activities with the theme "Air it Out" are planned, including a rally for victims that will be broadcasted on the local radio, a Clothesline Project, and a Ribbon Campaign. There will also be radio and television public service announcements, interviews on morning talk shows, shopping bag inserts, billboards, and bookmarks that will be distributed to public schools and libraries in the county.

(West Lafayette, IN) PurdueUniversity: The University plans to collaborate with victim service providers and local businesses to promote the rights and services of all crime victims. It will host an information fair open to the community at a local college and hold a poetry contest with winning poems printed on a victims' rights calendar. The university also plans to create a wall display exhibiting the names of victims of violence along with a Web site that will provide information about victimizations and victims' rights. Posters, flyers, and advertisements in newspapers and on the radio are planned to promote victims' rights and advertise the fair.

IOWA

(Fort Dodge, IA) Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center: This organization plans to hold a mini-conference to educate the public about the need for crime victim services and support. The event will be held at a local high school and will be open to the community. Victims and law enforcement personnel will serve as guest speakers. Date rape kits, whistles, brochures, and information on victim services will also be distributed.

(Mason City, IA) Crisis Intervention Service: This organization plans to have a media/awareness campaign focusing on crime victims. The NCVRW theme will be used. The organization will create billboards in English, Spanish, and Bosnian to post throughout the multi-county area. It will also use local radio stations, local newspapers, and large signs outside of area businesses to advertise NCVRW and educate the community about victims' issues.

KANSAS

(Olathe, KS) Johnson County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to present an art exhibit featuring work by crime victims that reflects their personal experiences. The exhibit will be advertised through newspapers, posters, flyers, and inserts.

(Topeka, KS) Topeka Police Department: This organization plans to hold an informational fair that will include a collection of used cell phones, clothing, diapers, and canned goods to be donated to organizations that serve crime victims. It will use a media campaign to increase awareness of NCVRW that will consist of billboards, radio advertisements, a new victim assistance resource Web site, and NCVRW flyer inserts in the water bills of 20,000 households.

KENTUCKY

Maysville, KY) Buffalo Trace Area Agency on Aging: This organization plans to hold a "Victims' Awareness Day" at a local college that will focus on elder abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse. The educational event will include speakers, information booths, and the distribution of promotional items. There will be public service announcements on the radio, advertisements in local newspapers, posters, flyers, and handouts that promote prevention and victim advocacy.

LOUISIANA

(Opelousas, LA) St. Landry Evangeline Sexual Assault Center: This organization plans to hold its 3rd Annual "Take Back the Night" event that will include a march, Silent Witness exhibit, information booths, and a candlelight vigil. These events will not focus on violence against women and other types of violence that affect the community. There will be billboards and lawn signs to advertise the event and NCVRW.

MAINE

(Augusta, ME) Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault: This organization plans to promote NCVRW and different ways the community can become involved in supporting crime victims?especially victims of sexual assault?through posters and newspaper advertisements. The posters will be distributed to organizations throughout the state and advertisements will be placed in five daily newspapers statewide.

MARYLAND

(Bel Air, MD) HarfordCounty Government: This organization plans to create small cards containing local victim service providers' information in English and Spanish, and produce a short video to be used at the beginning of outreach presentations by victim service providers. Harford County Government also plans to hold a poster contest and to develop public service announcements that will air during NCVRW on 36 cable channels.

MASSACHUSETTS

(Lowell, MA) Lowell Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with local domestic violence providers to hold class lectures on safety and domestic violence at a local community college that has a high concentration of immigrant students. It will also host a public forum to increase awareness of crime and available services. There will be advertisements about NCVRW and crime victim services on the radio, television, and in local newspapers, including ethnic community newspapers.

MICHIGAN

(Escanaba, MI) DeltaCounty Prosecutor's Office: This organization plans to have a public awareness campaign focusing on victims' issues. It will plan presentations geared toward the elderly and school-age children, hold an essay contest at area high schools, create three-fold cards for victims with information about all service providers, and produce promotional items. It will also display NCVRW billboards along a few main highways, distribute placemats with information for victims to area restaurants and senior centers, and run public service announcements on television.

(Kalkaska, MI) KalkaskaCounty Prosecuting Attorney's Office: This organization plans to conduct presentations on victims' rights at local organizations and sponsor a poster and essay contest in local schools under the NCVRW theme. Winning posters will be featured at local businesses and winning essays will be read at a community awareness event during NCVRW. This organization will create a bulletin insert that will be distributed to local faith organizations and public service announcements about victims' rights for local television, radio, and print media.

(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians: This organization plans to have an awareness campaign that will impact 12 tribes throughout the seven-county region. There will be a poster campaign, a "Walk for Justice 5K" during NCVRW to raise awareness of victimization, and a public service announcement for local television about NCVRW and Native American victims.

MINNESOTA

(Faribault, MN) RiceCounty Attorney's Office: This organization plans to hold an educational event at the county courthouse to provide information and referrals about victims' rights and services. There will also be an opportunity to create luminaries to be used in a candlelight observance and to decorate a quilt with messages of support and hope for crime victims. The local media will be called on to advertise these events.

(Grand Rapids, MN) Itasaca Alliance Against Sexual Assault: This organization plans to hold a "Crime Victims' Rights Resource Fair and Workshop" that will focus on all types of crimes. To increase awareness of this event and victims' rights and services, it will place an article in its local newspaper and develop a billboard and posters. The message will also be promoted through sermons and church bulletins, and public service announcements for the radio and newspaper.

(Hastings, MN) DakotaCounty Attorney's Office: This organization plans to hold a resource fair to increase awareness of victims' rights and services. The event will be open to the public, but outreach efforts will be focused on the Latino community. The organization will translate informational materials into Spanish and distribute these and other items promoting victims' rights during NCVRW and throughout the year. The resource fair and victims' issues will be promoted through newspaper, radio, flyers, and Web sites.

(International Falls, MN) KoochichingCounty Sexual Assault Program: This organization plans to work with its collaborative partners to produce infomercials describing a variety of crimes and the local services available to assist victims. These infomercials will run on local television during NCVRW and will also be used by the service providers during other public educational events throughout the week. Brochures and posters will also be used to highlight NCVRW events and victim services.

MISSOURI

(Columbia, MO) University of Missouri School of Social Work: This University plans to hold several events to raise awareness of victims' issues. It will host a community educational forum about community crisis response and reactions to violent crimes in communities. The event will feature a speaker and informational tables operated by local service providers. The university plans to create educational materials in English and Spanish about NCVRW activities, victims' rights, and local services that will be distributed to various organizations, such as local physicians and campus agencies. The School of Social Work also plans to host three brown bag lunches for students to view and discuss OVC training films; Working with Elderly Victims, Working with Victims with Disabilities; and Crime Victims and the Media.

NEBRASKA

(Papillion, NE) SarpyCounty Attorney's Office: This organization plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a victims' memorial during NCVRW. Packets containing information on other NCVRW activities and victims' rights and services will be distributed during the ceremony. This information will also be advertised using billboards, grocery bag inserts in English and Spanish, paper grocery bags, and posters.

NEVADA

(Reno, NV) Reno Police Department: This organization plans to hold several events during NCVRW to provide resources and education for all victims in the community. These events include their annual candlelight observance and a "Network of Agencies" resource fair. The week's events will be advertised on the radio and billboards.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

(Concord, NH) New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault: This organization plans to use funds to advertise their annual Victims' Rights Day to the public. This event will be held during NCVRW and will feature information booths, a Clothesline Project display, quilt display, memorial service to honor crime victims, press conference, and an evening vigil. The event will be advertised on television, radio, and in print.

NEW JERSEY

(New Brunswick, NJ) Rutgers University Department of Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance: This organization plans to hold a series of events on its campus during NCVRW to raise awareness of crime victimization and the services available to victims. Events will be open to the community and will include an art exhibit of wooden hearts and messages created by survivors of violent crime, opening reception, victim speakers, poetry reading, and musical performances. Advertising will be done by way of the student newspaper and flyers distributed across campus and throughout the community.

NEW MEXICO

(Santa Fe, NM) Esperanza for Battered Families: This organization plans to work with local law enforcement to host a community town hall forum to generate a conversation about improving responses to victims of crime by the faith-based and larger community. It also plans to conduct law enforcement training on responding to victims and hold a candlelight observance for crime victims. These events will be promoted through print, radio and television media.

NEW YORK

(Cortland, NY) YWCA: Through its domestic violence and sexual assault program, this organization plans to collaborate with a local police department to host a conference with panel discussions of providers and victims of different types of crime. Senator Hillary Clinton will be invited to serve as the keynote speaker for this event.

(Mineola, NY) NassauCounty: The Nassau County Family Violence Task Force plans to conduct a public awareness initiative on victims' rights and services. It will develop public service announcements for local and national television as well as a NCVRW poster, all focused on crime victims' rights and the services available in the county. The announcements and promotional materials will emphasize that victims of family violence are victims of a crime.

(Poughkeepsie, NY) Family Services Inc.: This organization plans to carry out a media campaign that will raise community awareness of victims' rights and services using the theme "You Are Not Alone." The media campaign will target crime victims and many first responders. It will consist of a press conference, reception, and advertising through posters and newspapers.

(White Plains, NY) Westchester County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to develop and distribute posters in Spanish and English that will raise public awareness of the District Attorney's Victims' Justice Center and the services it provides to all crime victims. The posters will be distributed to a variety of organizations, such as shelters and police departments. There will be advertisements for the Victims' Justice Center and NCVRW through the newspaper and radio public service announcements.

NORTH CAROLINA

(Winston-Salem, NC) Alpha and Omega Metaphysical Church: This organization plans to promote NCVRW, a victims' awareness fair that will include information booths, and services available to crime victims. Promotion will be carried out by way of posters, brochures (in English and Spanish) that will be distributed to Weed and Seed neighborhoods, and advertisements in newspapers, television, and radio.

OHIO

(Columbus, OH) Mothers Against Drunk Driving: This organization plans to hold a march and "Rally for Victims' Rights," which will include speakers and information on services available to all victims. It will advertise the event through posters, postcards, and the local radio.

PENNSYLVANIA

(Carlisle, PA) Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and PerryCounties: This organization plans to hold a "Victims' Rights Rally" open to the community during NCVRW. The rally will involve guest speakers, the presentation of a Victim Advocacy Award, and a display of artwork revolving around the theme of "victims' rights." Funding will be used for a media campaign using the television, radio, and newspaper public service announcements.

(Philadelphia, PA) Philadelphia Police Department: This organization plans to work with the Philadelphia Coalition for Victim Advocacy to raise awareness of victims' needs and NCVRW in different ways. It will develop a roll- call training presentation for law enforcement, a pamphlet in English and Spanish about victims' rights and services, and a training disk with information for victim assistance officers. It also plans to host a candlelight observance and an awards luncheon. NCVRW and scheduled events will be advertised through public service announcements on local television, radio, and in print media.

RHODE ISLAND

(Warwick, RI) Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence: This organization, as part of the Rhode Island Crime Victim Providers Steering Committee, plans to use funds for a radio campaign to promote the Victims of Crime Helpline as a statewide resource for victims of all crimes.

SOUTH CAROLINA

(Charleston, SC) TridentTechnicalCollege: This organization plans to host a "Victims' Services Community Resources Fair," in addition to a presentation and discussion of the film "Sentencing the Victim." The events will be advertised using flyers, posters, and advertisements in local newspapers.

TENNESSEE

(Lupton City, TN) Coalition Against Domestic and Community Violence: This organization plans to hold several events focused on victims, including a victims' luncheon, candlelight observance, ceremony, Children's Flower Memorial, and information fair. The events will be advertised on television, the radio, billboards, flyers, and posters.

TEXAS

(Angleton, TX) Youth and Family Counseling Service: This organization plans to hold two symposia on crime victims' rights open to the public and professionals. The symposia will include speakers, two of which will use Spanish and American Sign Language, and seminars for social workers and law enforcement on connecting victims to resources. It will also develop a local resource guide in Spanish and English. There will be advertisements in newspapers, radio, and television to publicize the symposia and educate the public on crime victims' rights.

(Arlington, TX) RushCreek Christian Church: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service and faith based organizations to host an awards luncheon and conduct a media campaign to promote NCVRW. Newspaper advertisements, a poster campaign, a television public service announcement, and an article in America's Muslim Family magazine will inform the public about the rights and services available to crime victims with an emphasis on issues related to hate crime. This organization also plans to host an awards ceremony to recognize service programs and individuals who have provided exemplary services to victims of hate or bias crime.

This project aims to raise awareness of victims' rights and resources, and show the public how it can make a difference by volunteering and reporting abuse. The organization will do this through posters, newspaper advertisements, a press conference, and a display of bronzed children's shoes.

(Brownsville, TX) Friendship of Women, Inc.: This organization plans to hold a Victims of Crime Information and Safety Fair for the community that will include booths offering information on victimization, victims' rights and services, and various health issues. There will also be an art exhibit by local teenagers to help raise awareness of victims' rights. The fair will be advertised through billboard signs, brochures, flyers, and ribbons.

(Lubbock, TX) Lubbock Community Victims' Rights Coalition: This organization plans to create a " Victim Memorial Garden" in remembrance of all crime victims and to serve as a place to gather for vigils or support group meetings. There will be a dedication ceremony for the garden during NCVRW, accompanied by a press conference. At the ceremony, victims will have an opportunity to lay personalized stones around a fountain.

UTAH

(St. George, UT) Utah Council on Victims of Crime: This organization plans to produce and distribute an educational DVD on victims' rights and what to do when these rights are not upheld. The DVD will educate victims and may be used in trainings of professionals in the field. Funding will allow for the distribution of the DVD to law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocates throughout the state.

VERMONT

(St. Johnsbury, VT) Umbrella, Inc.: This organization, as part of the Caledonia and Southern Essex County Domestic Violence Task Force, plans activities targeting all crime victims, with specific events for women and youth. For women, it will display a Clothesline Project at 22 local organizations and businesses during NCVRW. For youth, it will also hold a conference on the impact of violence on children and sponsor pizza and movie nights open to the public at a local community center. For all victims, it will coordinate a series of public service announcements, posters, and pamphlets addressing various victims' issues. It will also place electric candles and information about crime victims in storefronts in the two counties.

VIRGINIA

(Charlottesville, VA) Charlottesville Victim and Witness Assistance Program: This organization plans to carry out a public awareness campaign using the media. It will develop a commercial for local television, an advertisement for a local newspaper, and a public service announcement for local radio stations. National Public Radio (NPR) is also expected to provide coverage that will reach thousands of people.

(Front Royal, VA) WarrenCounty Council on Domestic Violence: This organization plans to coordinate a community awareness campaign that will include an essay and poster contest with the 2005 NCVRW theme, open to local high school students. It will also conduct a 1-day training/workshop that will be open to the community and which will address a variety of topics including elder abuse, internet crimes, and crime victim compensation. A brochure on victims' rights and services will be developed and will be distributed during NCVRW and throughout the year.

(Richmond, VA) VirginiaDepartment of Corrections: This organization will collaborate with the Virginia Parole Board Victim Input Program and the Victim Services Unit of the Office of the Attorney General to hold a "2005 National Crime Victims' Rights Ceremony" open to the public. It will consist of a flag and wreath ceremony including several guest speakers and information tables. The ceremony will be advertised throughout the state using flyers, newspaper advertisements, and public service announcements.

(Roanoke, VA) Council of Community Services: This organization, as part of the Family Violence Coordinating Council, plans to develop an "Are You Afraid?" service advertisement to be placed on carts at three local supermarkets in neighborhoods that are comprised of many non-English speaking immigrants. The advertisement will provide an opportunity for victims of family violence to obtain information about available services.

WASHINGTON

(Republic, WA) FerryCounty Community Services: This organization plans to hold self-defense workshops open to the community to empower victims and teach them ways to protect themselves. There will be five workshops, one of which will be a personal safety workshop for clients with disabilities, and an annual Crime Victims' Garden ceremony that will involve planting flowers in honor of crime victims.

(Wenatchee, WA) Domestic and SexualViolenceCrisis Center of Chelan and DouglasCounty: This organization plans to hold an educational event open to the community during NCVRW entitled "Pig Out in the Park: Celebrating Together to End Violence." This event will target all victims of crime and will involve guest speakers, a barbeque, an information fair with booths focusing on local victim services, and a live radio broadcast of the event. There will be advertisements of the event on local radio and television stations.

WISCONSIN

(West Bend, WI) Washington County District Attorney: This organization plans to carry out several activities as part of a community awareness campaign. It will advertise in newspapers and distribute inserts to be put in grocery bags and newspapers that will provide information on NCVRW events and resource for crime victims. It will also hold an essay contest in middle schools and a community forum to increase community awareness of victims' rights and services.

(Florence, AL) Rape Response/Shoals Crisis Center: This organization plans to collaborate with other local victim service organizations to carry out a billboard campaign for NCVRW. Billboards will feature the 2006 NCVRW theme, as well as the names and numbers of local crime victim service agencies. They also will use the billboard design to create small posters to advertise NCVRW activities at local agencies and businesses.

(Montgomery, AL) Lighthouse Counseling Center, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with other local victim service organizations to organize a “Strength in Unity” rally during NCVRW on the steps of the State Capitol in Montgomery. The rally will include speakers on victims' rights and relevant legislation, as well as tables displaying information about local resources available to victims. They will use bulletin boards, press releases, public service announcements, television, radio, newspapers, churches, college campuses, and community organizations' fliers to advertise the event.

ARIZONA

(Goodyear, AZ) City of Goodyear: This organization plans to collaborate with local police departments to hold a “Strength in Unity Fair” after a 5K run/walk sponsored by another agency. They will hold the fair at a local community college during NCVRW, offering 12 workshops and information about victim-related issues. Press releases will be distributed to local media and television stations will be invited to attend the event.

ARKANSAS

(Little Rock, AR) Arkansas Court-Appointed Special Advocates Association: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service providers to carry out an event entitled “Cruise to the Zoo” that will raise awareness of NCVRW and child abuse. It will take place at the local zoo and will involve banner displays and an information booth, which will contain materials on a variety of topics, such as how to access services for crime victims. They will use brochures, banners, and billboards to advertise the event and available services.

CALIFORNIA

(Bakersfield, CA) Kern County Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations and other agencies to carry out a campaign promoting NCVRW, victims' rights, and available services. They will hold a “Crime Victims' Rights Fair,” involving information booths, speakers, and artwork by victims. This joint campaign will also involve print advertisements, public service announcements in English and Spanish on local radio and television stations, and fliers in English and Spanish. They will distribute the fliers to area businesses and use them as newspaper inserts.

(Concord, CA) STAND! Against Domestic Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with many local victim service providers and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. A “Day of Healing” is planned, which will focus on the impact of trauma and include presentations. The event will be advertised through newsletters, their Web site, and posters. They also plan to purchase a newspaper advertisement that will list crime victims' rights and services, including faith-based services.

(Modesto, CA) Modesto Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with a local victim service agency and a foundation to carry out activities to promote NCVRW. The campaign will include creating and distributing posters, which will be displayed in the windows of area businesses, and yard signs printed in English and Spanish. They also plan to schedule television interviews with victims that will be in English and Spanish. Their planned events include a “Take Back the Night” and a “Victims' Rights: Strength in Unity” event, which will involve speakers and the presentation of awards to those who serve victims. Advertisement for NCVRW will be done through their local newspaper, radio, and television.

(Napa, CA) Volunteer Center of Napa Valley: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations, the district attorney's office, local law enforcement, victims, and a local artist to carry out a “Linked Together in Unity Against Violence” campaign for NCVRW. The artist will design a logo, which will be displayed on T-shirts, advertisements, and fliers. The fliers will be printed in English and Spanish and displayed in local businesses. Also planned is a courthouse rally involving information tables and solution boards, as well as a “Linking Together” ceremony to create a giant paper chain symbolizing victims connected with services that work together. They will develop public service announcements in English and Spanish for local radio and television stations.

(Nevada City, CA) Nevada County Victim/Witness Assistance Center: This organization plans to collaborate with local government and nonprofit agencies to carry out a variety of activities and events for NCVRW. The project will include a candlelight vigil, a victim awareness luncheon, a student poster contest, “Silent Witness” silhouettes, a display of T-shirts designed by sexual assault and child abuse survivors, and NCVRW proclamations. They will also develop posters, banners, public service announcements for local radio and television stations, newspaper advertisements, and an advertisement to be used on transit buses.

(Sacramento, CA) My Sister's House: This organization plans to collaborate with local community organizations to advertise their services for domestic violence victims on grocery bags used in local Asian markets. They will translate the grocery bag advertisements into Chinese, Vietnamese, Hmong, and Tagalog (Filipino), and then distribute them to the markets for use during NCVRW. They will also hold a press conference and create posters to announce the awareness campaign.

(Van Nuys, CA) University Corporation-Valley Trauma Center: This organization plans to collaborate with various California State University organizations, the local victims of crime office, and the Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County to hold a 2-day event during NCVRW. The event will educate the community on resources available to crime victims, relevant legal information, crime in their area, and the psychological effects of victimization. The event will also include an educational display and a performance of a play about sexual assault. The partners will use the radio, print, and television to advertise the event in English and Spanish.

COLORADO

(Denver, CO) Victim Assistance Unit-Denver Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service providers and other organizations to hold an NCVRW workshop. The workshop will discuss the importance of collaboration, include presentations on services provided by local organizations, and distribute printed materials about local services. At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to put together an action plan on how they can improve safety and services to victims. They will use fliers to advertise the event.

CONNECTICUT

(New London, CT) Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with a local police department to hold a 2-day community information fair during NCVRW. Several speakers will discuss victim issues and lead educational activities. The event will provide information on a variety of topics, such as local services for crime victims, the Crime Victims Compensation Fund, the criminal justice system, and safety for children and seniors. They will use the local media to advertise the event.

FLORIDA

(Gulf Breeze, FL) Northwest Florida Chapter, Trauma Intervention Program, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with victim service organizations, businesses, local law enforcement, and other organizations to hold an event during NCVRW entitled “Support for the Victims: Preventing the Second Injury.” The event will educate participants on victims' crisis reactions, victims' rights, and available services. They will advertise the event through fliers, invitations, and public service announcements in English and Spanish.

(Palatka, FL) Putnam County Sheriff's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, businesses, and other organizations to hold three events during NCVRW. The “Strength in Unity Speak-Out” will be the kickoff event that will include information booths run by local agencies and an opportunity for victims to express themselves. Information distributed at the event will emphasize services for underserved victims, such as those who are Hispanic or elderly. The second event is a “Victims' Rights Observance,” followed by a “Strength in Unity” march and candlelight vigil. The third event is a luncheon for senior citizens, which will provide information on crimes against the elderly and the services that are available for them. The events will be advertised through print and radio spots.

(Punta Gorda, FL) The Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies of Charlotte County, Inc. Victims Services Center: This organization plans to collaborate with the media and local organizations and businesses to hold a community event during NCVRW. The event will include exhibits with information about local victim services, speakers, victim speak-outs, and a memorial observance. They will also create a display honoring victims and hold art, essay, and poetry contests at local schools, with prizes provided by a local sheriff's office. A local newspaper will write a series of awareness articles and distribute a newsletter.

GEORGIA

(Blue Ridge, GA) North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service organizations to hold a public forum during NCVRW. The forum will include information tables with materials printed in English and Spanish, a guest speaker, and panel of local providers who will speak about available services and the need for collaboration. They will also carry out a Clothesline project for domestic violence victims. The events and NCVRW will be advertised through fliers and public service announcements for radio and television.

(Savannah, GA) Memorial Health University Medical Foundation, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local community organizations and the City of Savannah to hold an informational fair at a local mall during NCVRW. They will distribute information about local resources for crime victims and hold a “Kid Track DNA Child Safety Program” at the fair. Brochures with a special focus on elder abuse will be distributed at the event and in Savannah 's water bills. The partners also plan to hold a news conference and contact the local television and radio stations to spread awareness of NCVRW activities and the services available to elderly victims.

ILLINOIS

(Normal, IL) Regional Office of Education, District 17: This organization plans to collaborate with local child advocacy organizations and several other organizations to carry out a media campaign for NCVRW. This joint campaign will consist of advertising in five local newspapers during NCVRW and on two radio stations during the month of April. Advertisements will include information on victims' rights, resources, compensation, and NCVRW. They will also distribute grocery bag inserts in English and Spanish throughout the county.

INDIANA

(Elkhart, IN) Elkhart County Prosecutors Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local media and other organizations to carry out an awareness campaign for NCVRW. Advertisements will be developed in English and Spanish for local radio and television stations, including a Hispanic radio and television station. The advertisements will provide information on victims' rights and services. The partners will also create street banners and fliers to distribute to local organizations.

IOWA

(Ames, IA) ACCESS: This organization plans to collaborate with local college organizations and other local organizations to carry out a “Got Awareness?” campaign during NCVRW to raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services. Their campaign will consist of educational gatherings, radio and newspaper public service announcements, bus advertisements, posters, and displays about victim services and the impact of crime on the community. They will also distribute promotional items, such as buttons and magnets.

KENTUCKY

(Lexington, KY) Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency: This organization plans to collaborate with two local coordinating councils on elder abuse and another organization to carry out an awareness campaign for NCVRW. The campaign will include designing and distributing bookmarks and magnets containing information about signs of abuse and the services that are available. They will also place information about abuse and available services in local water company bills. Promotion for the activity and NCVRW will be done through billboards, television show appearances, and advertisements in the local movie theater, newspapers, and radio.

(Prestonburg, KY) Floyd County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, a bank, and other local organizations in a rural community to carry out a countywide campaign entitled “The Right To Be Safe.” The campaign will include a poster and essay contest for children in the fifth and sixth grades, as well as an educational day that will provide information about local victim services. There will be an awards ceremony for the contest winners and a “Victims' Rights/ Memorial Service” honoring all types of crime victims at a local college during NCVRW. The partners will also distribute promotional items, such as pencils and stickers, and use the media to advertise the events.

LOUISIANA

(Amite, LA) TriParish Victims Assistance Program: This organization plans to collaborate with a local sheriff's office and victim service organizations to hold a “Victims' Rights Run/Walk” to kick off NCVRW, create a memorial wall for local homicide victims, and hold a memorial ceremony to honor and remember homicide victims. They will also create promotional items, such as buttons and T-shirts using the NCVRW logo.

MAINE

(Perry, ME) Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Tribe: This organization plans to collaborate with local services through their Victims Advisory Board to hold a walk for NCVRW. They will distribute T-shirts and packets containing information on victims' rights and services at the event. The event will be advertised through fliers and notices.

MARYLAND

(Frederick, MD) Witness Justice: This organization plans to collaborate with a local volunteer organization to carry out an educational campaign entitled “These Are Your Rights” during NCVRW. Their campaign will consist of developing and distributing fliers and public service announcements on the radio and local cable station. The partnering agencies will also seek public speaking opportunities and reach out to local schools and organizations, such as an advocacy organization for the homeless.

MASSACHUSETTS

(Brockton, MA) Plymouth County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with other members of a countywide initiative, Violence-Free Education, Training and Outreach (VETO), to carry out a series of activities during NCVRW. They will hold a candlelight vigil and a “Living Memorial” tree planting service at a local park, which will also include the distribution of seed packets with NCVRW labels. A “Victim Rights' Awareness Fair” in local malls is also planned to provide the community with resources. Also planned is the distribution of bookmarks and palm cards to local stores. These items will contain resource numbers and safety information. They will advertise the events in English, Spanish, and Portuguese through local newspapers, television, and radio.

(Cambridge, MA) Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers: This organization plans to collaborate with local Brazilian, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean media to carry out a 1-week campaign during NCVRW focusing on domestic violence. Their campaign will target those three ethnic communities, so all information provided through the campaign will be in Brazilian Portuguese and the Cape Verdean-Creole language. They will hold a community awareness event that will include victim/survivor speakers and a facilitated discussion on domestic violence. Victims' rights and the services available to domestic violence victims will be promoted through posters, a press release, and an advertisement that will be placed in at least three weekly community newspapers. They will also develop a 30-second public service announcement to be used on cable television.

MICHIGAN

(Holland, MI) Center for Women in Transition: This organization plans to collaborate with a community alliance of prosecutors, probation officers, law enforcement, therapists, judges, educators, and other officials to carry out an awareness campaign during NCVRW that focuses on the rights of victims of violence. Their campaign will consist of 10 street banners in English and Spanish that will be placed within the city. The banners will state, “There is help for all crime victims. There's no place for violence in our community.” One banner will include a crisis hotline phone number. They will promote victims' rights and the project in an article in the city's local newspaper and through public service announcements on local television and radio stations.

(Paw Paw, MI) Van Buren County Prosecuting Attorney: This organization plans to collaborate with the county's Domestic Violence Coalition and the Victim Services Unit of the local sheriff's department to sponsor a local high school's opera that focuses on bullying. Before the event, a speaker will discuss victimization and victims' rights. They will also post two billboards on nearby interstates to promote NCVRW, hold an essay and art contest for local high school students, and develop awareness materials. Their joint campaign will also include a “Memory Wall” plaque with the names of victims in the county who have lost their lives to crime and public service announcements for local television stations, radio stations, and newspapers.

MINNESOTA

(Blainc, MN) Anoka County Victim/Witness: This organization plans to collaborate with public and nonprofit agencies in Anoka County to design bookmarks with information on victim services and statistics in English, Russian, and Spanish. They will distribute the bookmarks to local libraries and other places in the community, such as hospitals and restaurants, during NCVRW. A local student drama group will also develop a performance about victims' rights and resources that will be presented at local high schools. The performance will be advertised through radio and community newspapers.

MISSISSIPPI

(Hattiesburg, MS) Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources: This organization plans to collaborate with a local police department, district attorney's office, and victim service provider to carry out a multimedia public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The campaign will involve brochures, an advertisement in a local newspaper, and public service announcements on local television and radio stations. They will also hold a mayoral proclamation of NCVRW and an educational event consisting of workshops on victim-related issues. Also planned are presentations at local organizations and talk show appearances by victim service providers.

MISSOURI

(Bolivar, MO) Barceda Families: This organization plans to collaborate with various health departments and local outpatient therapy agencies to carry out a media campaign during NCVRW that focuses on victims of violent crime. The campaign will consist of billboards, pamphlets, brochures, fliers, and advertisements in local movie theaters and newspapers and on cable television and radio. The partners will also offer classes that focus on issues related to violent crime.

(Springfield, MO) The Victim Center: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service organizations to develop posters and tear-off sheets containing information about resources for crime victims. The partners will place the posters and tear-off sheets in bathroom stalls in local restaurants and bars during NCVRW and the rest of the year. They will promote NCVRW through press releases, radio announcements, and public access television.

NEBRASKA

(Fremont, NE) Crisis Center for Domestic Abuse/Sexual Assault: This organization plans to collaborate with local businesses, restaurants, a local college, and a local victim assistance agency to carry out an awareness campaign for a five-county rural area during NCVRW. They will place billboards in each county that will include the NCVRW theme and distribute law enforcement victim packets containing information on victims' rights and services. The partners also plan to hold a “Take Back the Night” march at a local college that will include a display table with brochures. Also planned are posters, fliers, and grocery fliers printed in English and Spanish.

NEVADA

(Fallon, NV) Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe: This organization plans to collaborate with another Indian tribe in Nevada and victim service programs to carry out an NCVRW activity entitled “Tribes United in Victim Awareness.” The two tribes will walk from their respective locations toward each other, meeting halfway, which will be approximately 20 miles for each tribe. When they meet, they will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for future collaboration in combating child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse. A celebration will follow the signing of the MOU and they will distribute some items, such as T-shirts, that promote awareness of crime victims' rights and services.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

(Laconia, NH) Belknap County Citizens Council on Children and Families: This organization plans to collaborate with law enforcement, victim service organizations, schools, and many other organizations to carry out a countywide community education campaign entitled “It's Personal! Strength in Unity for Victim Rights” during NCVRW. The campaign will consist of a “Silent Witnesses” display and the distribution of smaller versions of the “Silent Witnesses” display throughout the county. They will also distribute educational materials about victims' rights and develop a 6-minute DVD and video, which will contain interviews with victims and victim advocates. The project and NCVRW will be advertised through newspapers and radio.

NEW JERSEY

(Teaneck, NJ) Teaneck Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with local businesses, a local high school, a Spanish television station, and other organizations to carry out an awareness campaign during NCVRW. The partners will bring in speakers to give lectures on a variety of crime-related topics throughout the week. They will also distribute laminated cards containing local emergency numbers and magnetic cards containing information about victims' rights in English and Spanish. NCVRW and their events will be promoted through a press release, newspaper articles, and a public service announcement on local television.

NEW MEXICO

(Las Cruces, NM) Third Judicial District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, businesses, victim services providers, and other organizations to carry out a series of events during NCVRW. The kickoff event will be a “Crime Victims' Rights Informational Fair” that will include the distribution of victims' rights information in English and Spanish. They will distribute “Know Your Rights” bags containing informational items at local elementary schools and buttons containing information about domestic and/or sexual violence throughout the community. They also plan to hold a cell phone drive, tree planting ceremony, and a “Senior Citizens and Victims' Rights Awareness Campaign” that will involve bilingual speakers and the distribution of literature. The week will conclude with members of the community wearing the color purple in honor of victims' rights. The campaign will be advertised through fliers in city utility bills, e-mail, radio stations, and newspapers.

NEW YORK

(Herkimer, NY) Herkimer County: This organization plans to collaborate with the county's child advocacy center to hold a series of events during NCVRW. They will hold a “Take Back the Night” rally and march, which will include informational tables, a victim speak-out, and a Clothesline project. The partners will also hold seminars open to the public that will address various victim-related topics and educational programs at area elementary and high schools. Events will be advertised through local television, radio, and newspapers.

NORTH CAROLINA

(Durham, NC) Durham Crisis Response Center: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, the district attorney's office, local universities and university organizations, and a local community-based Latino organization to educate the Latino community on statutory and date rape during NCVRW. They will develop posters containing information in English and Spanish about the risks of violence and local resources available to victims, and then distribute the posters to local businesses and agencies. Also planned is an awareness event, which will involve speakers and the distribution of a sheet containing information in English and Spanish on victims' rights and services, with an emphasis on sexual assault victims.

NORTH DAKOTA

(Fargo, ND) Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Moorhead: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement and schools to host a “Kids Are Our Business Breakfast,” and community event that will focus on child abuse. The partners will also give educational presentations throughout the month, advertise on television, and broadcast an antiviolence television spot focused on youth victims. They will develop and distribute promotional items that emphasize that victims should not be blamed and that contain information on available services.

OHIO

(Bowling Green, OH) Behavioral Connections: This organization plans to collaborate with victim service organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW that will focus on child crime victims. They will use local radio and newspapers to advertise NCVRW, the impact that crime has on children, and the services that are available for children and their families.

(Kent, OH) Townhall II: This organization plans to collaborate with victim assistance programs and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The campaign will consist of a crime victims' memorial entitled “A Day in Our Shoes,” a candlelight vigil, a luncheon, and community bulletin boards. They will also hold a rape prevention education program at Kent State University and a “Pinwheels Project” that will focus on child abuse. NCVRW will be promoted through posters, ribbons, movie theater advertisements, a radio public service announcement, and newspaper articles.

(Toledo, OH) Advocates for Victims and Justice, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, churches, victim advocate programs, and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The kickoff event will be a press conference with speakers, including the local prosecutor and victims. The partners will also hold a candlelight vigil, as well as develop and disseminate brochures containing information on victim services. They will also develop radio and television public service announcements.

OKLAHOMA

(Idabel, OK) Southeast Oklahoma Victims Advocacy Board: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, victim service providers, and various other organizations to promote awareness of resources available to victims, primarily child victims, and their families or caregivers. They will develop a resource/referral manual and a “Children Can't Protect Themselves” community guide containing information on abuse and neglect, legal issues, and resources. Both documents will be distributed at an informational event during NCVRW, as well as throughout the community by local schools, churches, and civic groups. NCVRW and the event will be promoted through press releases and advertisements on the radio and in the newspaper.

OREGON

(Oregon City, OR) Clackamas County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations to develop a public service announcement to be used at two local movie theaters during NCVRW. The public service announcement will list information on local victim services in English and Spanish.

(Portland, OR) Portland State University: This organization plans to collaborate with 10 centers in Oregon that provide services to people with disabilities to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. Various videos, guidebooks, posters, and other resources for victims, especially victims with disabilities, will be assembled to create “Crime Victims' Rights Toolkits.” They will host forums that will address a variety of crime-related topics and distribute the educational materials from the toolkits. Local radio and cable access television stations will air public service announcements during NCVRW.

PENNSYLVANIA

(Harrisburg, PA) Victim/Witness Assistance Program: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, the district attorney's office, and community organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. They will hold a vigil for crime victims, create a billboard honoring all victims, and develop public service announcements on domestic violence, child abuse, and gun violence.

(Northumberland, PA) The Child Advocacy Center of Central Susquehanna Valley: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim witness coordinators and district attorneys in four counties to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. They will develop and distribute pamphlets containing information in English and Spanish on crime victims' rights and services. The partners will also hold “Crime Victim Awareness Tree Plantings” at each county's courthouse and advertise the events, crime victims' rights, and available services through local radio stations and newspapers.

SOUTH DAKOTA

(Mobridge, SD) Bridges Against Domestic Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, a Sioux tribe, and other victim service organizations to hold a 1-day event during NCVRW. Their event will involve speakers on various victim-related topics, such as jurisdictional issues and the dynamics of domestic violence, and a panel discussion. They will advertise in local newspapers and on radio stations.

TENNESSEE

(Knoxville, TN) Community Coalition on Family Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and a victims' rights task force to carry out a series of activities and events during NCVRW with the theme of “Strength in Unity: Reaching, Connecting, and Serving.” Events will include a workshop, a public awareness luncheon, a candlelight ceremony, an “Empty Shoe” display, a Clothesline project, a blood drive that will benefit victims of crime, and a performance of a play focusing on teen dating violence. They will promote NCVRW and the events through the distribution of safety cards, key chains, and bookmarks; appearances by collaborating partners on local television and radio stations; public service announcements; a press release; fliers; and billboards.

(Memphis, TN) City of Memphis: This organization plans to collaborate with a public service agency and other victim service organizations to host a candlelight vigil to honor victims of violence during NCVRW. The vigil will also serve as an educational event because they will distribute information about victims' rights and community resources in English and Spanish. They will advertise victim services through a local newspaper, as well as posters, pamphlets, and wallet cards printed in English and Spanish.

(Oneida, TN) Children's Center of the Cumberlands: This organization plans to collaborate with the district attorney's office and other victim service organizations to host “A Day of Community Awareness for Crime Victims” during NCVRW. The event will raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services and will consist of a speaker, luncheon, and booths that will provide information about available services. They will promote victims' rights through ribbons, buttons, a radio station, two local television stations, and two newspapers.

TEXAS

(Houston, TX) RAPHA Ministries: This organization plans to collaborate with the Immigrants Community Family Violence Coalition to conduct a public awareness campaign on immigrant victims' rights for NCVRW. The campaign will address barriers that immigrant victims face and services that are available. They will hold workshops, develop an online directory containing information on resources, distribute informational material on victims' rights, and create a quilt in honor of crim
